I get clean away with it because I have a babyface & perky 'cute' demeanour, and because I went to College a few years later than typical for my age-group so my grad date makes me look way younger. Technically it's not a lie as I did do exactly that - around five years ago, now. When I go for job interviews or to hang out somewhere new and someone wants to find out my age or what stage of life I'm at, I say "oh, I just dropped out of College and moved back home, I'm bouncing around between gigs, *distracting chatter to change subject*". He said resumes without college graduation dates were immediately tossed. When I told them my age the friendship cooled.Īlso my brother in law worked in HR for a major bank. I had befriended some Italians here in N.Y. I was in my mid 30s when I realized that being truthful about one's age was not ways the best policy. I even got the Only women don't like to give their ages bit. When I was in Italy I got asked my age by Italian men and women. I worked for a fashion house and unless you were in upper management it sure as hell mattered. Those who say it doesn't matter are idiots. Sorry age does matter and it can alter a person's view of you. My friend responded with the truth and he said to me you never saw a guy get out of a shower get dressed and leave so fast in your life. They were in the shower together and the younger guy asked my friend how old he was. by AnonymousĪ friend who was 50 who always looked incredibly young with a thick head of gorgeous hair and smooth skin was dating a guy I would assume about 30 ish. It’s other people’s attitude than being older is bad that is the problem. I assume young people have something to do outside of work, why can’t you assume the same about me? I also don’t like to be told I must be stupid or incompetent because no one my age could possibly know anything or have any sense. That’s an incredibly patronizing and condescending attitude. I’ve heard young people make incredibly crass and cruel remarks towards older employees like “their life would have no meaning if they didn’t come here,” or “they have nothing in their lives but this job,” or “It gets them out of the house.” Young people really think older people do not think one thought or do one thing unless a young person is looking. Young people think anyone old enough to be their parents is worthless. The reason old people don’t want to tell their age is it stops them from getting jobs. If the case be otherwise, i beg his pardon and extend to him the cordial hand of fellowship and call him brother.Thirty nine, as Jack Benny used to say every tear. I speak now, of course, in the supposition that the gentle reader has not been abroad, and therefore is not already a consummate ass. The gentle reader will never, never know what a consummate ass he can become until he goes abroad. If the case be otherwise, i beg his pardon and extend to him the cordial hand of fellowship and call him brother.Mark Twain Copy and paste the code showing below anywhere on your website where you want to show this quote.
